The shocking discovery of 215 bodies interred in unmarked graves behind a jail near Jackson, Mississippi, has deeply shaken the local community.

Families are expressing anger over their loved ones being laid to rest in what are commonly referred to as pauper’s graves, distinguished only by a metal rod and a number. Moreover, these families were never informed of the deaths. The revelation surfaced several months after the mother of 37-year-old Dexter Wade filed a missing persons report in March. It wasn’t until August that Bettersten Wade discovered her son had been fatally struck by a police car and subsequently buried in the same cemetery.
