You’re Not Sick of Remakes. SO STOP!

Have you ever said “I’m sick of remakes. Can’t Hollywood be original?” I’m guilty of this, but having a kid changed my opinion.

Without remakes, great stories can’t be retold to a new generation. Becoming a father has helped me realize that outrage should be more focused on movies being remade poorly.
I want my daughter watching amazing stories unfold on the big screen that I grew up watching, but I know when she’s old enough, she’s not going to sit through a movie where she can’t relate to the fashion, music, and lifestyles of that time period. Not many kids will.

I was 12 when Scarface with Al Pacino came out. If you tried telling me back then that I should be watching the 1932 version because your opinion was “Hollywood shouldn’t do remakes” I’d laugh at you, eye roll, think you’re out of touch, and old.

That’s just a few stories remade, you never would have seen if money hungry executives weren’t sitting in a board room trying to figure out a way to make a billion dollars, without paying for an original screenplay. I’m not saying we should excuse poorly made remakes, but can you imagine a world where grown men making sad attempts to be funny, didn’t overly use the one-liner “Say hello to my little friend”?
