Beer Can: Modern Art or Trash?
If you think art is just for galleries, think again. Yesterday, every NFL fan’s coffee table may have resembled a modern art exhibit.
In the Netherlands, a museum employee made an unfortunate mistake when two seemingly ordinary empty beer cans were tossed out—but these weren’t just any cans. They were priceless pieces of modern art.
The hand-painted cans were designed to look exactly like something you’d leave behind after a good time. In fact, they’re part of an art collection titled “All the Good Times We Spent Together.”
These cans were perched on the glass ceiling of the museum’s all-glass elevator, blending seamlessly with the surroundings. Unfortunately, an elevator repairman didn’t recognize the display as art and, thinking he was cleaning up after someone, threw them away.
Luckily, the museum curator noticed the missing artwork before it was too late. The trash hadn’t been sent to the dump yet, and the cans were safely recovered and restored.
The museum holds no hard feelings toward the worker, acknowledging he was just doing his job. In fact, the museum’s director even commented that this incident is a “testament to the effectiveness” of the artist’s work. After all, if it looks like trash, it might just be art!
