Search on for gunman who shot Spotsy store clerk in head

A Spotsylvania County store clerk is in very serious condition after she was shot twice in the head during a robbery.

Spotsylvania authorities are searching for the gunman who entered the Fas Mart Store at 11600 Brock Road in the Locust Grove area of the county around 3 a.m. Saturday, said Capt Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania sheriff’s office.

He said the man pretended to purchase an item and waited for the store clerk to turn away before pulling out a handgun and shooting her.

Pearce said he left her lying on the floor as he grabbed an undetermined amount of cash and merchandise and fleeing the store.

The suspect is described as a white male with a goatee between the ages of 25 and 35. He is between 5 foot 4 and 5 foot 7 weighing between 160 and 170 pounds. According to video surveillance, he was wearing a dark hoodie sweat shirt and jeans and was armed with an unknown caliber handgun.

The 32-year-old female victim was transported to Mary Washington Hospital and subsequently flown to a trauma unit in Richmond.

Pearce said she is in very bad shape, but is expected to live.
